Pana ne luminam cum ajuta teoria conservatorului la producerea de track-uri techno haideti sa vedem macar cum ajuta lectura la intelegerea mai buna a scenei din acest moment. RA publica un review al anului trecut sub forma unui schimb de mailuri intre cei 3 oameni care scriu cel mai coerent si avizat despre techno, deja familiarii Peter Chambers (mnmlssgs), Philip Sherburne si Ronan Fitzgerald. Textul e mare si merita citit tot. Despre cat de seaca e reorientarea spre deep, cat de ofertanta e altoirea techno-dubstep, de ce e tare sound-ul Berghain si ruptura intre cultura de club si cultura de blog.

“The shadowy Pom Pom have been beavering away in obscurity since 2001, releasing untitled tracks in text-free, “none-blacker” vinyl-only editions, no information available. In a culture currently collapsing from promotion-overload, this information-void is particularly appealing. And Pom Pom’s clunky brand of techno only adds to the charm—brazenly hand-crafted, functional, but with little interest in fads or genre conventions, this is weird stuff. It sounds like the product of Berghain mated with Profan: dark, reverb-dunked rhythms lost in pools of tape hiss, divergent patterns causing further confusion, crudely sampled patches of static. Pom Pom is Marcel Dettmann meets Marcel Marceau; punishing, but with tongue-in-cheek and a playful glint in its eye. If T. Raumschmiere is techno’s punk-rock, then Pom Pom is its No Wave.” RA review

The Coronation

Ne-am bucurat destul in public (si am plans si mai mult in particular) despre succesul mnml-ului in lumea muzicii electronice de dans, ca sa trecem peste asta. Topurile nu mai sunt de mult ceva tare, cam de cand trona Tiesto si gasca in varf, si parea ca orice s-ar intampla in lume nu avea cum sa schimbe asta. Desi erau foarte greu de gasit in particular, exista acolo undeva un trib, popor de-a dreptul, nevazuti dar multi, care asculta si vota isteric trance. Si ce mai radeam, si de cat de sus ne uitam la ei. Votantii lu’ Iliescu. Pana sa apara Basescu. Sustinut initial de o elita, cand scapa in lume are un succes atat de nebun ca sperie si pune pe ganduri pe orice sustinator lucid. Azi e investirea oficiala. Minimalul e noul trance. Sa te bucuri, sa te-mpusti?

RPR sunt romanii din top. Petre Inspirescu, pe locul 99, si Rhadoo, pe locul 93, parca anunta triumfala aparitie a lui Raresh pe locul 22. Rhadoo si Pedro sunt in primii zece de la coada, dar avand in vedere de cine sunt inconjurati te simti bine oricum: Pan-Pot, Todd Terje si Dominik Eulberg. Raresh in schimb i-a intrecut si pe James Zabiela, si pe Steve Bug, si pe Move D.

Pe locul 7 in top 15 Remixuri pe 2008, se afla un remix la piesa lui TRG, Broken Heart, facut de Martyn, care a transformat dubstepul dur intr-unul sexy. Asculta aici.

Reconstructing the structure of the world-wide music scene with Last.fm

“Basically: this is a graph representation of the similarity relationships derived from the database of Last.fm. The circles (vertices) on the left hand side figure are bands, musicians, composers, whatever you will find in the Music section of the site. Lines (edges) connect similar artists. In order not to make the whole thing an ugly hairball, only a subset of all existing connections are displayed. Last.fm quantifies artist similarities in a scale of 100 points – I dropped connections below 80, mostly because the degree distribution follows a nice power law at this cutoff level. Edges are colored according to their centrality in the network, from white to dark gray in a nice logarithmical gradient (the visualisation with black background use a different palette from black through red and yellow to white). Insignificant edges are more transparent than significant ones. Vertex sizes vary according to the popularity of the artists.Vertex colors correspond to musical genres, identified by tags attached to the artists by the users of Last.fm. Rock is red, metal is dark grey, electronic is orange, hip-hop and rap is blue, jazz is yellow, reggae and ska is magenta, classical music is cyan, country, folk and world music is brown, pop is green. Light grey vertices are unclassified.”
