“I feel there are a couple routes which can be taken when putting together a mixtape for a site like RA: You can rehearse the arrangement which can yield a more relaxed/ listener-friendly mix, or alternatively it can be treated like a gig: Press record, bang it out and go for a raw feeling. I chose the latter approach, because I want people to know what to expect if they come to see me perform. I saw this podcast as an opportunity to (hopefully) promote my live set.
As far as the tracks and mixing style, it is a fairly good representation of how I might play out. I do some EQ moves and fader bumps, but I don’t go too crazy. I try to tastefully play the turntables/mixer as an instrument. Within a two hour set or so, I’m bound to go completely “underwater” at least once or twice. There are moments when you play for the audience and moments when you play for other musicians… I have a gig at Berghain soon, that might call for a darker selection, but I won’t know until I get there and read the crowd. Something tells me they wanna get dirty though…” LV for RA
Saptamana trecuta, cand Jijian si-a facut debutul la Martin, am fost acolo sa il vad si am ramas impresionat de cat de bine si fresh a putut sa sune in warm-up pentru Chris Liebing. Este unul dintre singurii dj de la noi cu un sunet undeva intre Dettmann si Undergroud Quality. La Martin, setul a fost mai apropiat de house, ceva mai groovy, dar cu o atitudine la fel de techno. Setul pe care ni-l propune acum vine mai mult din spiritul Berghain. Jijian poarta steagul renasterii techno, iar noi nu putem decat sa ne inrolam fericiti.

monici: Am facut mixul in a doua saptamana a mutarii mele in Dublin. Nu asociez foarte tare piesele cu locul, pentru ca le-am adunat progresiv. Tonul general usor minimal vine ca reactie a disco-ului pe care nu l-a pus Andrew Weatherall la Electric Elephant, probabil cel mai bun set de care am avut vreodata parte. Starea de visare aferenta multora dintre melodii, combinata cu dorinta de izolare insoteste intr-o anumita proportie experienta mea de aici. Highlightul setului astuia a fost Tevo Howard (Everyday House Music, Beautiful Granville Records, Jul 2009), ale carui melodii, inserate aici, fac pe multi dintre ascultatorii irlandezi sa declare ca as pune house. Mai sunt inca doua piese in mix care m-au uluit. M-au facut parca sa renunt la tot, impotriva oricaror reguli morale: Two dots si Sacred cycles. Cu drag, pentru Freshgoodminimal.
