Ai plecat la Artmosferic Festival in Bulgaria sambata dimneata, cu somnul in oase si cu nerabdarea in suflet. Te-ai inarmat cu tot ce trebuie pentru un festival in munti sau cel putin asa ai crezut. Ai luat cort, izoprene, sac de dormit, paturi, apa, sandvisuri, aparat foto, o umbrela, ai verificat roamingul, ai printat harta internationala precum si cea locala si ai subliniat drumul. Ai pus in bagaj pana si hartie igienica. Ai vazut ca va ploua, drept urmare tu ti-ai luat bocanci, dar ceilalti nu. Parea foarte simplu din indicatiile organizatorilor, 500 de kilometri pe care, dupa calculele voastre i-ati fi facut in 6 ore; tac-pac, minimal. Ce sunt 6 ore de drum dupa 4 ore de somn in fata a ceea ce stiati ca va asteapta muzical din partea producatorului italian. Era musai sa ajungi, sa comunici, ca sa crezi ca e real si sa scapi de obsesie. Si v-ati avantat in munti.
Pe fondul unei aversiuni de genuri si subgenuri muzicale te pomenesti, ca ascultator, tinta tuturor influentelor posibile. Daca ramai in proprietatea unui singur stil, implicit devii obtuz in calea muzicii produse ca feeling si nu ca parte integranta a unei categorii. Highlight-ul contemporan e reprezentat de producatorul proaspat iesit pe piata, cu maximum 3-4 ep-uri la activ si o colectie de aproximativ o duzina de remixuri si re-edituri. Astfel de nume sunt sustinute de labeluri precum Radius si Endless Fight (Mule sublabel), cu prestigiu in favorizarea elitei. La randul ei, elita, precum cei ca Prins Thomas, Mark E si Radio Slave face lobby subtil, online, pentru cei nou sositi. Tot elita le creaza conditii favorabile evolutiei muzicale si includ in mixurile lor trackuri unreleased, foarte des de o calitate exceptionala.

De provenineta nemteasca, Tensnake (Marco Niemerski) produce de aproximativ 5 ani, timp in care si-a dezvoltat cu succes imaginea de pusti disco pe scena techo. Isi modeleaza remixurile cu groove-uri rococo, intr-o maniera lejera, sesizabila pentru cei care gasesc seducator minimul touch de eleganta sonora ca valoare adaugata unei piese originale. In acelasi context, productiile sale sunt ca o croiala fina de designer francez. E usor de sesizat ideea tropicala pe care o insereaza in majoritatea lucrarilor sale. Dar ea este atat de subtila si completeaza atat de sinestezic restul layer-urilor din piesa, incat te simti baroc, un personaj din Greenaway cu contururi lejere.

How does this music go with the nature?
This music goes with the nature, that’s the point. If it depended just on me, I would have made only parties in open air. The music has to take its time. Certain sounds need to be in touch with the sky, with the stars and people need to know that. When you are inside of a club, it can be the best club in the world, but you cannot see the stars, you cannot really put the hands up of your head and just feel the touch with something. Also in some clubs there are a lot of people smoking, I do smoke too, but after 3-4 hours in a club I can not breath properly. It’s also a question of regenerating our body. When we are outside we have a different understanding of the sound, because our brain, whatever we do, it’s still clear, we are breathing good air in a perfect environment. I guess a good sound system it’s all we need.
Why do you hate minimal house?
I hate things without a kind of personality, just made because it is a kind of trend. I’m not angry because of the music, but because of a lazy attitude of some people that just follow some trends instead of using the brain, creating something genuine, pure. You can say that not everybody can do that, but I say that everybody can do that. If they just made their own story, they wouldn’t have so much pressure to get a release and become popular. It’s not all about that; it’s all about the message you spread.
What message do you spread?
Enjoy some sounds and find your own way in this. Nothing special. I know the music it’s a very powerful therapy and instead of talking bullshit around, sometimes it’s better just to stay home and listen to some good music, relax, come down and take things for better aspects. I started smiling to music, while making the music, while listening to music from other people. It was really important, because that gave me good feelings and in that way I was able to transfer my feelings to other people. It’s a kind of chain reaction. When I hear things that don’t give me any feeling, I prefer to do something else. That’s why I hate the trends.
The BBC’s Radiophonic Workshop was set up in 1958, born out of a desire to create ‘new kinds of sounds’. Alchemists of Sound looks at this creative group from its inception, through its golden age when it was supplying music and effects for cult classics like Doctor Who, Blake’s Seven and Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, and charts its fading away in 1995 when, due to budget cuts, it was no longer able to survive.
There are interviews with composers from the Workshop, as well as musicians and writers who have been inspired by the output. Great archive footage of the Workshop and its machinery is accompanied by excerpts of the, now cult, TV programmes that featured these sounds.
