“Cele trei discuri conţinute de Tryptych – în fapt, o colecţie cu toate cele trei EP-uri Demdike Stare lansate pînă acum, cadorisite cu un bonus de piese niciodată imprimate pînă astăzi – însumează 160 de minute de litanii care ies arareori dintr-o monotonie hipnotizantă. Nimic rău – dimpotrivă! – pentru un gen care celebrează ocultul ca formă de evaziune dintr-o realitate în care multora nu le mai place să funcţioneze. Însă spre deosebire de Salem, celelalte primadone ale acestei proaspete nişe muzicale, DS nu cultivă pedeapsa ca soluţie pentru ispăşirea păcatelor. Sunetul lor este mai degrabă ambiental şi meditativ, ritmul vine din fixaţia pentru dub a lui Whittaker, iar sample-urile folosite aduc la suprafaţă fragmente de piese cu aromă orientală, pisici leneşe şi obscure. Demdike Stare nu sperie, nu bruschează (ca Salem), ci ne adoarme conştienţa pentru a ne putea scufunda într-un alt strat, mai întunecat, mai frisonant, dar şi mai profund.” Paul Breazu (dilema veche)

Without commentary or interviews and using a visual style that eschews the MTV aesthetic usually found in music documentaries, Karmakar’s film lets the music and the energy of its performers speak for themselves. Long sequence shots allow us to fully appreciate both the structure of the songs and the relationship between sound, image and performance. It provides an illuminating insight into an underground scene that has slowly become a global phenomenon.
