Un release neobisnuit pentru conservatorismul Kompakt, dar remarcabil, un album nebun, al doilea al producatorului chilian, cu un nume ce il descrie perfect. Desi tempoul nu e rapid, tie iti vine sa tipi zici ca asculti cel mai aprig techno. Nu e techno, zici ca-i funk cu efect psihedelic, este un sound foarte organic, cu influente clare din muzica africana, presarat de voci si acapelle crocante, toate ale lui Aguayo: “cateodata foloseam cam 60 de layere doar pentru a inregistra voce”. Versurile insa nu se inteleg, parca au fost captusite la productie. Sunt si piese greu digerabile pentru cei care detesta stilul tribal (ba ultima chiar e inacceptabila), dar per total e un album bestial. A fost inregistrat la Buenos Aires, la Santiago de Chile, si la Paris, si mixat la Berlin, iar daca vrei sa-l asculti, trimite un mail. Un peisaj sonic original si distinct, reuseste sa surprinda pe oricine.

“I feel there are a couple routes which can be taken when putting together a mixtape for a site like RA: You can rehearse the arrangement which can yield a more relaxed/ listener-friendly mix, or alternatively it can be treated like a gig: Press record, bang it out and go for a raw feeling. I chose the latter approach, because I want people to know what to expect if they come to see me perform. I saw this podcast as an opportunity to (hopefully) promote my live set.
As far as the tracks and mixing style, it is a fairly good representation of how I might play out. I do some EQ moves and fader bumps, but I don’t go too crazy. I try to tastefully play the turntables/mixer as an instrument. Within a two hour set or so, I’m bound to go completely “underwater” at least once or twice. There are moments when you play for the audience and moments when you play for other musicians… I have a gig at Berghain soon, that might call for a darker selection, but I won’t know until I get there and read the crowd. In the late Seventies small pockets of electronic artists such as The Human League, Cabaret Voltaire and Throbbing Gristle were inspired by Kraftwerk and J G Ballard to dream of the sound of the future against the backdrop of bleak, high-rise Britain. Gary Numan’s 1979 appearance on Top Of The Pops heralded the invention of synthpop, which would provide the soundtrack as Britain entered a new, ruthless era in the Eighties. Depeche Mode, four lads from Basildon, came to embody the new sound, while post-punk bands such as Ultravox, Soft Cell, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark and Yazoo took the synth from the pages of the NME and onto the front cover of Smash Hits. By 1983 the Pet Shop Boys and New Order were pointing to where the future of electronic music lay – in dance.

Saptamana trecuta, cand Jijian si-a facut debutul la Martin, am fost acolo sa il vad si am ramas impresionat de cat de bine si fresh a putut sa sune in warm-up pentru Chris Liebing. Este unul dintre singurii dj de la noi cu un sunet undeva intre Dettmann si Undergroud Quality. La Martin, setul a fost mai apropiat de house, ceva mai groovy, dar cu o atitudine la fel de techno. Setul pe care ni-l propune acum vine mai mult din spiritul Berghain. Jijian poarta steagul renasterii techno, iar noi nu putem decat sa ne inrolam fericiti.
Tonto este un instrument, acronimul de la The Original Timbral Orchestra, un sintetizatorul hibrid si urias construit de Malcom Cecil si Bob Margouleff la sfarsitul anilor ’70, cand se credea ca tehnologia va duce la un “sat global”. “Am vrut să creez un instrument care sa fie primul sintetizator polifonic multitimbral. Este diferit fata de tipul de polifonie prezentat de cele mai multe dintre sintetizatoarele de azi, la care apelezi la un patch de coarde şi tot ce iese din degetele tale sunt coarde. În cartea mea, “multitimbral” înseamnă ca fiecare notă cantata are o alta tonalitate a sunetului, ca si cum fiecare ar veni de la un instrument diferit. Am vrut să se pot reda live muzica polifonica multitimbrala utilizand cat mai multe degete din cate aveam si, daca e cazul, si picioarele”, spune Molcom. Totul a plecat de la un Moog III caruia i-au adaugat piese de pe te miri unde, salvate din foc, echipamente la mana a doua, module noi de la diferite companii sau fabricate de ei. Planurile le desenau pe fetele de masa din hartie ale unui restaurant din apropierea studioului. Pe masura ce timpul trecea, aveau nevoie de noi si noi module, astfel ca, in timp, instrumentul a devenit o adevarata nava spatiala. Era greu sa transporti masinaria uriasa pentru a face un live, asa ca majoritatea concerteleor se tineau in studio. Cei doi ingineri de sunet si-au dorit sa faca muzica care sa fie “timeless” si au reusit cu cele doua discuri de fata, clasice underground. Tot aceste albume l-au adus la usa lor pe Stevie Wonder, atunci in varsta de 21 de ani. Au lucrat si improvizat atat de bine impreuna, incat in patru zile aveau 17 cantece. Cateva dintre ele au aparut pe albumul de debut al lui Stevie. Mai jos, un scurt feature video de 4 minute despre asta.
Trentemoller aduna intr-un mix downtempo piese preferate care acopera o arie larga de stari de spirit si stiluri muzicale: folk, ambient, electronic, experimental, neo-industrial, dub-house, synth pop din ‘70 editat, new wave si glitch. Avem si voci rusesti, si instrumentatie live. “Dear Listener, within this compliation I have basically chosen some of the many songs I use in my own most intimate hours, coming down after gigs, cleaning my apartment, waiting for friends to arrive or simply daydreaming with my twenty-first century walkman through the city of Copenhagen.
