“Documentary following a generation of post-punk musicians who took the synthesiser from the experimental fringes to the centre of the pop stage.
In the late Seventies small pockets of electronic artists such as The Human League, Cabaret Voltaire and Throbbing Gristle were inspired by Kraftwerk and J G Ballard to dream of the sound of the future against the backdrop of bleak, high-rise Britain. Gary Numan’s 1979 appearance on Top Of The Pops heralded the invention of synthpop, which would provide the soundtrack as Britain entered a new, ruthless era in the Eighties. Depeche Mode, four lads from Basildon, came to embody the new sound, while post-punk bands such as Ultravox, Soft Cell, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark and Yazoo took the synth from the pages of the NME and onto the front cover of Smash Hits. By 1983 the Pet Shop Boys and New Order were pointing to where the future of electronic music lay – in dance.
Contributors to Synth Britannia include Philip Oakey, Vince Clarke, Martin Gore, Bernard Sumner, Gary Numan and Neil Tennant.” BBC

Cum protejam drepturile de proprietate intelectuala a celor care le detin, fara a ingradi dreptul la creativitate al viitoarelor generatii? Good copy, bad copy este un documentar despre conflictul dintre actuala lege a copyrightului si dezvoltarile tehnologice care permit samplingul, remixul, mash-up-ul si file sharingului peer to peer. Filmat in 2006 si pus la download free pe net, este el insusi un mash-up de interviuri cu artisti si produatori din Europa, via America, pana in Brazlia si Nigeria. Ajunge si in Rusia. Vorbesc avocati si directorul MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America), responsabil de raidul politiei din 2006 cand au fost confiscate serverele Pirate Bay. Avem dicutii cu cei doi fondatori ai siteului de torrente, precum si imagini de la raid. Din Brazilia si Nigeria, culmea, apar modele noi de business, atat in industria muzcala cat si in cea a filmului. Documentarul este definitoriu in ceea ce priveste cultura globala, din ce in ce mai vasta din cauza subtierii liniei dintre consumator si producator pana aproape de inexistenta.

The Boat That Rocked is a fictionalized account of those young men and women who decided to take to the seas off the coast of England and broadcast newer, more modern pop songs from pirate-radio ships. […] The original DJs, partly because of the (black) American tunes they played, but also because of the improvised, freeform patter they used between songs, exuded very different sonic identities from their more earnest peers at the BBC who were only able to broadcast a few hours of pop music each week. They were performers rather than cultural custodians, entertainers rather than gatekeepers.
